  1. Jim-
What time of year did you fish there and did you see lots of fish? Also...what were your top three flies (or more if varied conditions dictated more)? I know guys who have fished there and caught fish, but overall felt that they didn't have the right flies (are they in your pictures?). The cliamed to see tons of fish, but getting eats was difficult. Thanks in advance!

  2. Top flies are the seaducers and deceivers. Any "keys style" flies work great. Some are pictured in my boxes. I did well with the yellows and oranges in the mangroves and creeks, and lighter colors and whites in the open water. Anything grizzly is good. Down there, its NOT the fly pattern, its the presentation that gets fish to eat. If its near them, and going away from them, they usually eat. I've never tried a fly that did NOT get eaten! We did good with topwaters too. (Gurglers, poppers) The guides I use have flies as well. I fished there in early Feb. 2011, Nov. 2011, and I'm going back again a week from today! Not even "prime time", but I had great fishing. I've seen plenty of fish on every day I've ever fished down there except for one in February following a cold front. There's plenty of tarpon in that area, and easier to catch than Florida (Everglades) baby tarpon. I'll post a report from next week's trip in early March. I can't get enough of the place.

  3. Thanks for the response Jim. I appreciate you sharing information with me on the fishery. I am glad to hear that you haven't encountered any picky fish down there...I personally love days and weeks like that! Like I said, I know several guys who have been down there and while I have heard of several days where "it didn't matter"...I have also heard of times where people where pulling their hair out. And these are not your avg flyfisherman telling me this...I am talking lifetime guides who have 100's of days in the salt chasing tarpon and anything else that swims in the Keys, Bahamas, Mexico, Seychelles,Christmas Island, Costa Rica, Belize...you get the idea. So I hope you get after them on this next trip too! I am very much looking forward to your report! I always love hearing about the fish, the conditions, tides, flies, tactics, etc so I hope you feel inspired to share more knowledge upon your return! Thanks and good luck amigo!

  4. Let me know if and when you're going. Pooner99@gmail.com Just got a report of very high winds lately and poor fishing ("uncastable" was the term used). Hopefully that changes by Saturday. Spring is windy down there though. Summer and fall is more "prime."
