I'm not really sure about the figure 8 thing. I've never asked in 8 trips! I will try to remember to ask when i go back in November, if not sooner. I suspect it might be they think it gives the tarpon a little "breath." They do it upon release too. All the guides are very concious of wet hands, and quick safe handling.
Jim, Awesome video. Looks like a phenomenal day on the water. What is the "figure 8" thing the guide does before he unhooks the Tarpon?
