Random Wanderings

The dog days are here, so it's now pretty much a morning and evening program, and limited at that.  I get a nice one here and there.  Prime season is over, at least the one with the steady hatches and reliable risers.

The'ole Beaverhead evening special, Missing Link.

20 on the stick!  Gave me a few chances.

The 'ole Madison evening special.

20 on the stick!  Fine spotted, at least compared to the ones a couple valleys over.

That evening bank I always try to fish

This little 5 incher ate the spinner, and as I was dragging it through the riffle, a big brown came and latched on to it. I had it "on" for about 30 seconds before it let go.  Wrong place at the wrong time for this guy.  I need to use bigger flies!

Following a nice 45° morning.  There is literally nobody here!  I saw 3 fishermen all day.  Three.

Had to be 20 on the stick!

Right in a usual spot.

She's high and movin'.

This tank was just above the platform.  21 heavy.

Lots of Caddis and other sunset bugs.  Not many fish up.  Water too high and turbid?  66° eve. H20 temp.

Not filtered or edited.  Nobody here.  What a sunset.
This guy came just after high noon on Millionaires. The only one.
Early morning at Millionaires.
The only one I touched.

The Fork is not happening.  Water's too high, and "Beaverhead clear." There's a few bugs, but the trout wont rise.  The cold front passes this afternoon.  I drive 30 minutes from the low 80s at Last Chance to 54 at the top of Reynolds.  We all know by now where all roads lead. It's cloudy, rainy, and in the 50's all the way.  Extra blanket night in mid July!
