Wind and Weeds

No, not wind and weed.  I wish.  But ya, the weeds be flowin' and the air be blowin'.  There's a storm comin'.  Let the record show I was two hours from the MO, and didn't go.  They can have their fucking high water.  (I still hope for another prolonged "devastating" drought period in my lifetime.)  Beav. still at 260ish, and it sucks anyway.  No browns in the Boulder yet, that I saw anyway.  The ditch or E Gallatin?  Ya, sure.  So back to the Fork since its south, and on the way to the rest of the good places in Idaho, or home, whichever the case may be.  The water was covered with BWO's, and some mahoganies here and there as well.  The bigger fish didn't seem all that interested.  The secret is out on the middle ranch fishing apparently.  People fishing all up and down, while the Last Chance lot only had two cars.  I rose a few decent ones and caught a couple creek-size ones.
A little protected by the pines

Of course, got some eats on this.

This was the casting position, with a shady spot for stealth.

This was the fly

Well, the scenery was nice, because I lost/missed/pricked the fish of the day--Twice!

Encore

It was blowin' hard at camp just below Emigrant, with wind in the forecast.  I hooked up the trailer to head out. As I approached the creek turnoff, the leaves were still, and the grass wasn't moving.  I detoured in, looked at the log book to see only my name from the day before, and signed in again!  The rest, as they say, is history.

Another sunny warm day with the place to myself and rising fish all day.  Nowhere to go from here except down.  For the third evening in a row, I left pools and pods of rising fish.  Enough is enough.  Know when to say when.  If I cast again, I'm just going to get another eat.  All day easy fishing when I wanted it.  I could be choosy though.  And I was.  Only the best and brightest.  Some with flies of broken hearts still in their jaws.
They were doin' it upon arrival at the main pool . . . but no, not again . . .

Upstream, I fished this bank for most of the day.  Just the big heads, 1-6 inches from the bank.  Cool takes.

Fed 'em the $3.95 Harrop "good" bug a lot.

This is a 25-cent version of the $3.95 bug, and it worked as good or better!

Lots of brown ones on the bank today.

More Creek

After two days of near-steady rain and colder temperatures, I got back on the creek today.  Sunny, 65, no floating weeds, fish rising all day to midges,  . . . can't get too much better.  Even with the wind that came up around 11, the fish still did their thing.  Played with some different flies this morning and got schooled until I went back to the Harrops.  Mostly fished the beetle after lunch.  The last hour before sunset was just silly-good with the hanger.  Glad I hung around.
Morning started cloudy, but the sun came quickly

Paradise (Picture Heavy)

They don't call it Paradise Valley for nothing.  And today . . . Sunny to filtered sunny. Perfect sight fishing light and water.  70-ish not too hot, not too cold.  Not crowded.  Midges on the water at 8am.  Trout slurping the midges until 1:30. Pods at times.  No wind.  Risers to be found for the rest of the afternoon.  Fish 'till you drop.  One of the best ever I've had here.  Dozens of eats.
Mossy, but congregating the fish

My favorite sight-fishing trout flat in the world.
