Looks like October. Feels like October. Even fished like October. Hatch started around noon. Fished up and down the slow, flat, weedy cattails and grassy banks of Millionaire's Slough until late afternoon. Easier wading and drifts than the upper water. I had zero company other than Rosenbauer and a buddy who passed by going upriver this morning. Saw more Mahoganies today than any so far. Fish were eating them, but still sporadic and moving up and down the pool a lot. Plenty of bwo's being ignored. Wind would blow, then lay down, back and forth all afternoon. Got some eats and even caught a few. I landed fish early in the hatch when conditions were less cloudy and windy resulting in easier presentations and better visibility.
Morning started partly cloudy and windy/breezy. |
Then it laid down. Try watching your fly float in and out of all that color! |
This cloud loomed to the northeast and north most of the day, while skies overhead and to the west remained partly cloudy. |
These made an appearance amongst the tons of bwo's. |
My fly of choice. Does clipped partridge make a larger foot print and allow for better flotation? I think so. (The English would cry blasphemy for such a thing) |
That cloud to the northeast moved very little, but turned into quite a shower for a couple hours. Never a sprinkle while I fished here though. |
Classic Millionaires hook-jaw. |
The ugly chick |
Interesting how the coloration and spotting varies so much, even in the same pool and same river. |
