I was just going to post the porn and call it good, but today was different. Really different. One fly pattern all day. Only a couple refusals. Sunny and calm, with a passing cloud now and then. Hardly any hatch to speak of. Midges on and off, but still sparse. A few hours of sparse tiny bwo's early afternoon, but you really had to look. There were strays floating down. Yet, there were fish rising, from 10 am 'till dark. Sporadic, with singles and a few small pods in the sweet spots. They seemed to appreciate a bug or fly. Not selective like during a heavy hatch.
Much better hook-up ratio today. High More fish casting upstream. Lots of bank feeders. I land more fish with 5X than 6X. Eight feet of 5X on the furled leader is the bomb. No knots, same tippet all day. I fish better in sunny and warm. I can see the fish, my leader, and the fly. Fished the five Lone Tree spots am, below High Bridge pm, and the D-Gate evening. What seemed like a sunny no-hatch bust ended up being a 15-touch day. Once found, they ate that little soft hackle like candy.

He's crossed the river! One pile on the trail going in just after you drop down off the hill, and the other pile on a side trail that goes right to the water. "HEY BEAR!" |

Made it back out to D-gate. |
I ain't quite MO'd out, but pretty close. Can't do much better than today except cast to bigger pods. Like today didn't have enough fish. Weather was perfect, fish cooperated, no wind. One more day.
Jim: Great pics. Water so,so calm and clear...perfect Fall day. Sounds like a great outing.

It was. Pretty easy pickings, but with the tiny fly in tricky places. Very satisfying.
